I'm here to give parents like you the confidence and clarity needed to meet children's social, emotional and behavioural needs.
My name is Penny Gibson and I am a Child and Family Counsellor based in Kew, Melbourne.
You've landed here for a reason. You are a loving and dedicated parent but your child is demonstrating behaviour you don't understand. Maybe you're unsure how to manage their internal emotional world. Perhaps your energy is drained by your concern and you just want to know what you can do to support your kiddo.
You turn online for a solution but we all know that the internet is flooded with information and advice that is average at best. You might talk to someone about it but they just don't "get you" or your situation. You are told that you "should" be doing this and you "should" be doing that. You are left feeling judged and more confused than ever.
Not sure where to start or what kind of support is right for you?
Want to explore your options before you commit? Perhaps I have been recommended but you want to decide for yourself? All the above are great reasons to enquire about a FREE Introductory Session. Let me know some detail about you and your family and I'll get back to you in a day or so!
This is not a ‘Dear Diary’ trip down memory lane. This is a tried and tested way for you to put your past frustrations aside and future anxieties on hold. To put things to paper when it comes to your parenting and your family so that you can start to notice behaviours, thoughts, patterns and triggers. Ones that might be clouding the good bits, or contributing to angst or uncertainty.
Parents are renowned for allowing the ugly monsters of stress, self-doubt and guilt to have a stronger voice than optimism, compassion and acceptance. Engaging in this journalling practice aims to reconnect you with what you love about being a parent and start you on a journey of learning and growth to meet the hopes and aspirations you hold for you and your family.
"We had Penny come to our home last year for some guidance, reassurance, work-shopping... (read HEEELP***) around some behaviours our kids were exhibiting that we didn't quite know how to handle. We have three boys, a 3yr old and twin 2 yr olds. We were seeing some understandable sibling rivalry and jealousy that we wanted to make sure we were handling appropriately. Penny is amazing. From the initial contact to make a time to meet through to coming to our home, the process was smooth and stress free. The terms of contact were clear and we knew the process of what was going to happen upfront.
Penny has a beautiful energy with children, she was so present and attentive. When they engaged, she was gentle and nurturing while maintaining connection and support with myself and my Husband. Penny asked us lots of questions about our concerns and over the course of the visit, Penny was able to witness the behaviour in our children and how we respond. Penny was so supportive and encouraging. She confirmed that what we were doing was fine and gave us some other ideas of things to try. She also sent us resources after the appointment for extra reading.
So often, I wanted reassurance. I wanted to just know that we were doing the right thing. Is this O.K? Penny gave us that. The conversations and advice we received from Penny has shaped how we parented and responded to our kids. I'm super grateful for Penny and the work she's doing with families and wouldn't hesitate to recommend her to any family needing support, direction or reassurance."
"Penny has been a wonderful support to my daughter and I this year as we've worked through some changes in our life. In a short span of sessions, we have been able to narrow down some key focus areas in the lead up to prep next year with Penny's guidance and support. I thoroughly recommend Penny to anyone out there reading this thinking that their child or themselves need someone's advice or second opinion. If nothing else, your confidence as a parent to your child grows ten fold talking things through with Penny!"
